About

Tomorrows Leaders Today, an innovative programme supported by the National College for School Leadership, seeks to pro-actively identify and support talented and aspiring leaders in South Gloucestershire. The programme in leadership development will explore areas of leadership learning in ways that complement the many other commercial leadership programmes available to support middle leadership development. Elements of research and enquiry, coaching and debate, school based practice and future thinking are just a few of the elements included in the South Glos programme.

The future profile of school leadership and the demographics of our school leaders, encourages every Local Authority to ensure it produces a sustainable approach to succession planning that will encourage its future leaders to ‘step up and step forward’ into school leadership. The Leadership Academy ( visit http://www.leadersoflearning.net/) also supports our aspiring and senior leaders here in South Gloucestershire, seeking ways to encourage our leaders to grow in their roles and to make a difference to all our young people that we serve in our schools.

The Tomorrows Leaders Today programme is supported by two NCSL Regional Consultants , Local Authority officers and external facilitators who draw on best practice in leadership development to make the future in educational leadership an exciting world to ‘step up and step forward’ into; particularly here in South Gloucestershire!!

The blog is an integral part of the TLT learning community and I encourage all members of the 2007/08 programme to use it as a forum  for debating, sharing and to enrich their own learning.

Tom Whittingham,

Leadership, Management and Governance Strategy Manager.

    Claire,

Reading your blog I can sense the energy. Thank you.

As you say being in a new school really makes you think hard about all the things we tend to take for granted when back in the comfort zone/ groove of our own school. I guess much of what you aree taking in helps endorse things back at your school but I guess some of it will challenge your perceptions, which is why the brain hurts. When I am in the position I feel you are describing I try and remember the saying:

“The difference between a rut and a grave is the depth of the hole”

Somehow it makes me stop saying well you couldn’t do that because…

Good idea to have a time limit on blogging. I’ll follow your good leadership…keep it simple….

    Chris
